I do not recommend it.
There are several significant reasons for this:
— Loss of time. Training requires full-time attendance for 2-9 months or part-time for 4-18 months. You are required to be present, check in for attendance, watch videos, and practice on mannequins or walk-in clients.
— Loss of money. This "pleasure" isn’t free. Nail schools start at $2,500, while barber and cosmetology schools start at $9,000. The highest tuition fee found last year in California for a cosmetology program was $24,000. This means you not only lose working hours but may also need to take out a loan.
— Loss of knowledge. If you already have an education from beauty schools outside the USA, you won't learn anything new from the outdated 1980s methods used in American schools. Many of my clients still came to me for exam preparation after attending these schools because: (1) everything is in English, and (2) very little time is spent on preparing for the theoretical part of the exam.
What’s the alternative?
